Billy’s Trackside sits just opposite Flemington Racecourse. This cafe-restaurant serves modern Australian food with a Mediterranean twist which is largely reflected in their cocktail menu and wine list. Brand new to EatClub, Billy’s Trackside is part of the Melbourne hospitality group Billy’s Group, who are all about paddock-to-plate food enjoyed in a casual, inviting setting.
William Bourke (Billy) was the son of British immigrants who moved down under. He fell in love with working the land and embracing the seasonal produce that came from farming and fishing. When he cooked he used native food and seasonal fruits, vegetables and meats. Billy believes that food should warm your heart. This is what formed the foundation not only of his food appreciation, but of the food at Billy’s Trackside.
On the menu you’ll find comforting, classic Aussie dishes with Mediterranean leanings. For breakfast, opt for Blueberry Choc-Chip Waffles, or the Smashed Pita Bread with poached eggs, smashed avocado, chilli relish, feta and roasted capsicum. Lunch and dinner presents starters like a chorizo dish with pea puree, fried leek and crumbed feta, and larger plates like pasta, pork belly, parmigiana and Baked Chicken Roulade which is filled with prosciutto, buffalo mozzarella and served on saffron-infused cauliflower rice with roquette pesto which is best enjoyed with a glass of South Australian or French rosé.
