With a focus on fresh ingredients, local producers and homemade sauces/oils, Doughboy Pizza has become a Sydney institution.
With pizza restaurants in Australia coming and going so quickly nowadays, when a local brand hits their 20-year anniversary, you know they’re doing something right. Born around the turn of the millennium, Doughboy Pizza was started by three Sydney-based friends who had all had enough of the large pizza chains churning out a mass-produced product.
‘Fresh is best’
With a focus on fresh ingredients, local producers and homemade sauces/oils, Doughboy Pizza has become a Sydney institution. The brand offers all the classics you’d expect, from Capricciosa to their signature “Lamborghini” (Moroccan spiced Organic lamb), but they’ve also catered to the vegan & gluten-free crowd since before it was cool, with a range of plant-based pizzas and gluten-free bases – all crafted with coconut oil.
The Doughboy motto is ‘Pizza with love’ and you can definitely see that in their insta-worthy creations. Carefully engineered to maximise flavour, all dough and toppings are crafted daily – just one of the touches that make their pizzas special. Add on the salads, and the mouth-watering can’tlive without garlic cheese bread, and you've got a perfect meal.
Sustainability is big a focus for the team at Doughboy. They aim to work with locally sourced products as much as possible and with suppliers who are sustainability-minded. You could say they’ve always been a brand who takes social responsibility seriously.
While the popularity of Doughboy Pizza has seen, the brand grow to multiple locations, they still exclusively source their ingredients from small, local producers; and according to founder, Ata Gokyildirim, don’t expect that to change:
“The quality of our product is everything, if we were to open too many stores, too quickly, and need to start dealing with large wholesalers, it could potentially affect the product quality. That’s not a risk we’re willing to take.”
Whatever they’re doing, we just hope they keep doing it.
