Collective Espresso and Kitchen celebrate the art of coffee and the comfort of a neighbourhood. And where good coffee goes, good food often follows.
True to that, this cafe brews a quality cup and serves food of the same calibre. Their team of coffee specialists and food enthusiasts have been rolling out coffees for commuters and brunchy meals for loyal locals since 2009. And they’ve now joined the EatClub platform.Across from Camberwell Rail Station sits this charming place. The fit out is simple, classic and soulful, with lots of natural light from the front windows, a stocked pastry cabinet and plenty of use of wood throughout. Collective Espresso and Kitchen really do make the most of a tiny space.
The coffee is made with much care, using Collective’s own unique blend by Undercover Roasters, a Bendigo-based specialty coffee roaster and wholesaler. On constant rotation is a range of single origins.
Serving classic all-day breakfast dishes with a contemporary twist, Collective is just as comforting as it is exciting. Special mentions go out to the names of the items on the menu, in particular the Collective Sigh of Relief, which is much like a full English breakfast. The No Brainer is a herby avocado toast with seeds and feta and the Oreo ‘Show Time’ Pancake is an attention-seeking, decadent (and downright delicious) option. There’s a smoked version of eggs Benedict, as well as a poke bowl and two different burgers. The Go On Then section of the menu is a list of all the sides – truffle fries being one of the options. If you’re after something other than coffee, there are smoothies and teas. When it’s alcohol you’re after, that’s there too: VB, chardonnay, shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and an actual French champagne.
To get on the same wavelength as the person pouring your coffee, order the Barista Breakfast which will get you an espresso of their rotating single origin and a milk-based coffee of your choice.
