Guilty pleasures from Burger Boys can be found at the Saving Grace Bar on Church Lane. In this venue, there are no gimmicks — just hearty burgers, perfectly balanced cocktails and a solid range of craft beer all in a seductive setting. 

  With a sexy fit-out that features a large curved bar, pre-loved timber, booths, jaguar green leather and plenty of dark corners, there is nothing godly about Church Lane’s dive bar. It is a cosy 50 seat diner, run by Dene Lockwood and Simon Alexander who turned their hobby of creating burgers into a full-time gig. They started selling their burgers at Melbourne’s Deja Vu bar before it closed, but then satisfied their demand at pop-ups before opening permanently at the Saving Grace Bar.

     These burgers are devilishly good, with perfect buns and market-fresh produce. But the real goodness is in the pure artisan beef patty. The boys get their beef from Cape Byron Angus to be ground daily. They add only salt and pepper, keeping it simple. Dene comes from a line of butchers, so what he thought was common knowledge when it came to meat was actually what deemed his burgers a cut above other burgers.

  The burger on offer for this Christmas feast is the burger that Dene recommends: the classic burger. With its perfect patty, streaky bacon, american cheese and a side of kosher pickles, we can see why. Pair it with your favourite drink, because trust us — this is a bar you’ll want to fall from grace in.
