Oh for the love of wine…
La Lune Wine Co is chef and restaurateur Paul McGivern’s vision of the ideal wine bar. Specialty dining, European fare, a lengthy wine list and expert pairings create the perfect place for catch-ups, meetings, dates or just some time alone with a nice wine and a paired dish. EatClub is more than delighted to have this bar on board.
McGivern (The Wolfe) had the idea to open La Lune Wine Co after a visit to Burgundy. He fell in love with the region and its pinot noir and chardonnay grapes. He waited seven years for the perfect location to become available before he opened this French-inspired wine bar in South Brisbane.
The bar is somewhat small and sits in South Brisbane’s Fish Lane. It’s dark and moody with the kitchen in the centre and a bar running around it. Sip a wine and have a chat with the chefs as they plate up – it’s totally encouraged.
The menu features dishes that are not only enhanced by wine, but dishes that compliment each sip. There are cheese boards served with house quince, cornichons and bread & crackers; a daily-changing Ceviche served with kohlrabi kimchi, witlof and coriander; and Buckwheat Rag Pasta, with porcini crème, local mushrooms and sage.
The wine list is extensive but not overly challenging. Bar manager and sommelier Olivia Evans will provide all the necessary details as she pours you your first taste. There are wines from Mosel, Cotes De Provence, Chianti, the Yarra Valley, Bordeaux, Champagne, the King Valley, Marlborough and of course, Burgundy.
