Minato Sake Bar and Diner sits high up overlooking Manly beach and dishes up fresh, refined Japanese fare. Whether you like your sushi inside-out, outside-in, deep-fried or raw, EatClub can guaranteed you’ll adore this restaurant full of Japanese goodness.
Start with a Sake and Soda and order some nigiri, sashimi, kingfish hiramasa and eel unagi… or a big splendid mix of the lot from the sushi bar. The head chef Jin is as super-skilled and creative as they come!Small bites include edamame, pork or veggie gyoza, karaage and Takoyaki – Osaka style octopus balls with mayo, bonito flakes and a sweet soy dressing. Kingfish Carpaccio and Scallop Ceviche are two of the standouts on the entree list and the grilled eggplant with sweet miso is what our favourite, the Nasu Dengaku, consists of.
Mains include Teriyaki Salmon Steak, served with yuzu butter and avocado salsa, Wagyu Steak and a tender slow-cooked Duck Breast.The sake menu is concise and approachable, with hints about which are sweet, dry or light. Otherwise on the drinks list, expect Sydney seaside classics: crisp beers, cocktail favourites (think Aperol Spritz and Espresso Martinis) and Aussie Prosecco and wine.
Whatever you order you’ll discover that at Minato it’s all about the added details. Their Matcha Ice Cream creatively comes with a polenta crumble. Ah yes please!
