Opened by an Abruzzo native and restaurateur Dario D’Agostina, Nonna’s Cucina sits inside Port Melboune’s historic Floodgate Hotel. The menu features handmade pasta, plenty of seafood and tiramisu made from D’Agostina’s nonna’s own recipes.Peruse the wine list for your desired drop – whether that be Italian or Australian wine – and order your starters. On warmer days, you can’t go past an Aperol Spritz to kick things off.
The approachable menu celebrates Italy’s best kept culinary secret – the region of Abruzzo – in the most honest, delectable ways. Start with Homemade Truffle Polenta Chips and the Polpette Della Nonna (nonna’s meatballs) before moving onto the pastas. Kids can enjoy Spaghetti Napoli and Chicken Parma with Chips.All of the pastas are really good, and kind of wild. We love their pappardelle which features pork and fennel sausages, a porcini mushroom ragu and saffron, and their incredible gnocchi dish. It’s another eclectic dish that just makes sense with guanciale (cured pork), cherry tomatoes, spinach and a creamy truffle sauce.
And we know we don’t need to tell you to order their Tiramisu.
